Translations for Foreign Embassies

When dealing with a foreign embassy, it is possible that document translation will be required. All embassies are different, and translation requirements can differ by state (e.g., the Spanish consulate in New York might have different requirements than the Spanish consulate in Miami). So, it is important to always check with the embassy or consulate in question before getting any documents translated to make sure you understand the requirements.

The first step is to check the website for information about required documents for your particular process. For example, if you are applying for citizenship, there may be a section for “citizenship” matters and a list of required documents. Here, it should also specify if your documents need to be translated if they are not in the language of the destination country (e.g., if you are applying for Spanish citizenship, but your birth certificate is in English, you will likely need to have it translated to Spanish by a certified translator).

If there is no information about your process online, send an e-mail to the embassy or consulate and wait for a response. If there is a phone number, you can also try to call during their business hours. Ask if your document will require an apostille, and if so, if the apostille needs to be translated as well. Also ask what the requirements are for the translation. Some embassies/consulates only accept translations from sworn translators in their country, so you will not be able to have just anybody do your translation.

Once you have all of the information you need, send us an e-mail with as many details about the translation requirements as possible. This will help us provide you with the right translation. It is important to note that most foreign embassies do not provide translation services. The applicant must find these services on their own.

At CSH Translation, we provide translations for many foreign embassies on a regular basis including the Spanish Consulate in Miami, the Italian Consulate in Miami, the Portuguese Consulate in Miami, the Mexican Consulate in Miami, the Colombian Consulate in Miami and many others. We also provide consular translation services for embassies/consulates located in other states, such as New York and Washington, D.C.
