The Embassy of Italy in the United States is located in Washington, D.C. Like the Italian Embassy, the Italian Consulates handle many different processes for Italian citizens and non-citizens. Among the processes in their jurisdiction are student visas to Italy, work visas to Italy, Italian citizenship and Italian passport services, among others. In today’s article, we will discuss translation services for the Italian Embassy and Italian Consulates in the United States.
Italy has several consulates located in the continental United States, including: the Italian Consulate General in Boston, the Italian Consulate General in Chicago, the Italian Consulate General in Detroit, the Italian Consulate General in Houston, the Italian Consulate General in Los Angeles, the Italian Consulate General in Miami, the Italian Consulate General in New York, the Italian Consulate General in Philadelphia and the Italian Consulate General in San Francisco. All of these consular posts handle various processes. Furthermore, each consular district serves citizen residents from certain states, so it is important to ensure you apply for your process at the correct consulate. For example, the Consulate General of Italy in Miami covers the states of Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and Mississippi. Additionally, it serves residents of Puerto Rico.
Whenever applying for a process at the Italian Embassy or Italian Consulate that includes documents that are not in Italian, they will need to be translated to Italian in order to be accepted. In addition to translating the document, usually all documents that have been issued in the US will require an apostille that must be translated to Italian as well prior to submitting it. For example, a US birth certificate will need to be apostilled and then both the birth certificate and apostille will need to be translated to Italian. The applicant must obtain the apostille prior to translating the document.
It is imperative that the translation step is carried out according to the Embassy or Consulate’s rules, otherwise, it could lead to delayed process or worse, a denied application. As a result, it is recommended to verify all translation requirements with the Embassy or Consulate where you are applying to ensure compliance with these. Different processes may have different rules and requirements, and thus, it is important to understand what these are prior to submitting your documents for translation.
In addition to ensuring the translation is correct, the translations need to be completed by a sworn translator. CSH Translation is proud to provide translation services for citizens applying at any Consulate of Italy or the Embassy of Italy. Please contact us for more information.
